With great honour, excitement, and joy we proudly present to you the 40th Arteq podcast by Australia's one and only T-Rek.
We grew up listening to T-Rek's sexy and slamming dance infused rock bangers--Out My Bitch, New Strange, the Freak Show Disco volume to name a few. When we met him in person recently at a local bar drinking Ale, we locked in a podcast with him. It was a no brainer for us. The Rex is a legend of this city.
T-Rek has helped shape the Melbourne electronic music scene in the last 20 years, at the same time he has forged his own path with a stand out, unrivalled sound. His original music is timeless, and without a shadow of doubt, the 40th Arteq podcast is no different.
Recorded straight from Revolver Upstairs in December 2021, you're hearing T-Rek's best vibes straight from the sauce.
We appreciate you very much Tarek. You submitted this on extremely short notice, and have allowed us to continue on with our schedule of mixes. Not only that, the mix is fkn SLICK.
Enjoy the beats fam. You'll be seeing more of T-Rek & Arteq soon.
More from Arteq and T-Rek below.
What direction did you take on the mix?
Left. And then I went left again. And then also a left. Finally I went left. Unfortunately I did not end up where I started. Seriously though? This is an excerpt from a DJ performance at Revolver Upstairs in early December 2021. Sometimes when the club is extremely busy, rather than dig into new music that I’ve recently acquired or push into new and strange territories of my collection, it’s fun to just “play the hits”. I don’t mean trucking out a bunch of tunes that everyone has heard a million times, rather, playing a selection of my own personal favourites from over the years, that have consistently garnered a strong reaction and always held their place almost any time I’ve played them. This recording reflects that.
Why did you decide to go this way?
Because it’s what I do and I’m lousy at doing anything else.
What did you use to record this mix?
A fully restored Soviet wire recorder.
You are an incredible artist that produces and creates your own abstract music. What drives you to create?
Why thank you! My mind is insane beast that I must tether on a daily basis by way of creativity, otherwise I would probably descend into some form of completely depraved criminal behaviour.
FREAK SHOW DISCO - 2006 Release - Various Artists
What is the vision for the next 3-5 years?
Death to all humanoids.
There’s 10 minutes left before the world self destructs, what song do you put on?
Joe Dulce - Shaddup You Face.
Is there anything on your mind that you would like to say?
Yes. I have a radio show on Kiss FM Australia every Saturday afternoon (Freakshow Radio) from 3-4.30pm where I get to play everything and anything I want under the banner of dance and/or electronic music, without the usual constraints of a dance floor. Expect the truly unexpected. You can also catch me DJing every Monday morning at Revolver Upstairs from 3am till whenever we close. You can visit my Soundcloud page for every radio show, DJ set or T-Rek song I have ever released, and whilst you’re there, if you’re a DJ type or just someone that likes to own digital copies of music, you can sign up to the Freakshow Disco mailing list to receive all T-Rek & Freakshow Disco related releases for free on the day they are released to the rest of the world. Good thanks…
