ATQPOD045 || Sunshine

We are excited, ecstatic, energised and electrified to share with you all the 45th Arteq podcast. This very special release, is brought to you by the one, the only, the legend that is... Sunshine.

Listening to this upon submission our cells could not help but try to escape from under our skin. The mix is 60 minutes of absolute mastery. A beautiful mix of techno, house and deep bangers. There is energy, there is life.

The mix is woven together seamlessly. The selection immaculate. We could not be happier to share this with you all.

Sunshine has been a massive inspiration for many people in the Australian music scene since her late 90's inception. She is a true pro. Get down to the links below, follow her online, stay updated, and get to her DJ sets at the legendary Revolver Upstairs on Saturday mornings from 7am.

Sunshine, thank you! We'll see you at an Arteq event real soon.

What direction did you take on the podcast?

There's a bit of everything from techno to house and deep melodic grooves.

Why did you decide to go this way?

I didn’t plan how the mix was going to come out. I made a playlist of some of my favourite tracks at the moment, jumped on the decks and pressed record. This mix is what came out.

What did you use to record this mix?

2 x CDJ2000NXS2

1 x DJM900NXS2

What drives you to create, and to DJ?

My passion for music. Music is an endless journey of discovery and creation. I absolutely love it and couldn’t imagine doing anything else with my life. What keeps me passionate about DJ'ing aside from my love of music, is the constant challenge of building the energy in a room and connecting with the dance floor.

Tell us about your Disco Faith Choir, and where you see it heading moving forward?

Sunshine and Disco Faith Choir is a project I started in 2016 where I DJ with a live choir. The vibe at our shows is electric, everyone goes off to the happy uplifting DJ sound I’m known for, with 12 incredibly talented singers joining me on stage. The combination of the journey of a DJ set with the crowd engagement of a live set creates an energy in the room unlike anything else, if you like the music I play I highly recommend coming to a show. I’m super grateful for how well its been received so far, I’m aiming for the world stage with this project. My ultimate dream is for us to be closing the main stage at festivals around the world.

What’s in the pipeline for 2022?

Lots of exciting fun stuff Aside from being busy with my usual Melbourne DJ gigs, I’ve got some interstate gigs coming up for both myself and the choir and I’ll be announcing some new Melbourne shows for the choir in the coming weeks. There's a new Sunshine track coming out soon on Disco Faith Recordings called ‘Glory’ (its the last track on my mix hehe) and a couple of new records with Disco Faith Choir coming out soon as well. Bring on 2022.

What do you see for yourself in the next 3-5 years? What have you accomplished?

Everything I’m doing now with Disco Faith Choir, Disco Faith Recordings and everything Sunshine but on a larger scale. I think my biggest accomplishment is to have never had a ‘real job’ and to have been making a living doing what I love for the past 23 years. Below are some of the highlights…

- 23 years of DJ'ing in Melbourne. 18 of those years headlining events.

- 19 years resident DJ on Saturday mornings at Revolver Upstairs.

- Starting Disco Faith in 2016.

- Record label, Choir, Events company.

- Playing the closing set at Sidney Myer Music Bowl for Piknic Electronik in 2021.

There’s 10 minutes left before the world self destructs, what song do you put on?

10mins!!! I can squeeze two songs in haha. Below is the songs I’d put on, in that order.

Travelling Wilburys - end of the line (3:27) Sunshine and Disco Faith Choir - Welcome To The Dancefloor (6:17)

Is there anything on your mind that you would like to say?
